Title holder Christine Venhuizen outran her rivals to finish first in the women’s category of the Keienloop, Megen race. She came dashing past the finish line in 18.29 minutes. “I am winning this race for second time. Last year I won this race and bettered the course best time. However, the weather conditions today made it difficult to focus on my personal best time.” said an ecstatic Christine.
She clocked 18.29min, just seven seconds after the overall winner in both the men and women categories. “I was leading from the start till 4.1 km mark while the number one passed me. I tried to keep up with him but my upper legs were too exhausted!” said Christine.
Fate would have it that Christine was to celebrate the success on the same day as her wedding anniversary.
Christine admits that she was not in the best shape for the race. We asked her of her expectations just before the race to which she replied, “I have no idea how I will perform today. Time is not important at the moment. Taking part in a race is a huge step in my training progression.”
”The desire to compete never goes away,” she added, “I will run to complete not because I enjoyed training. I want to get to the level I've been at in the past.” Sure as death the two time champion completed at the top position.
